Each week we will be doing someone fun and exciting related to science, technology, engineering and/or math (STEM). STEM is a pretty hot word these days, but do you know what it stands for or how important it really is? What is STEM? STEM is the future. STEM is science, technology, engineering, and math. These are all areas of learning that our kids need to be comfortable with to excel in the future. STEM makes creators, thinkers, problem solvers, doers, innovators, and inventors. Exposing kids to STEM at an early age today sets a foundation for higher learning tomorrow.
Our STEM challenge last week was to build a paper tower in 15 minutes. The rules were we could only use 10" of tape and 10 pieces of paper. The structure had to be free form (couldn't be attached to anything). The group with the tallest tower won the challenge. The groups had 5 minutes to plan and design and then 15 minutes to build! Finally, they had to build the tower in silence--WOW! The kids did a great job--check out our slideshow.
